I was working on a blog to commemorate 10 years of Kargil conflict. While trying to write about it, all of a sudden I remembered a song sung by Lata Mangeshkar in honour of our brave men who fought against Chinese hordes in 1962. Even though both these conflicts have different causes, they have a lot in common. Biggest commonality being that we were betrayed by neighbours we were trying to get amicable with. Both conflicts had our under-equipped soldiers fighting in mountainous and brutal terrain against an enemy who held many advantages over our forces. I have posted it below for my readers along with a youtube link to hear the song. I suggest first you read the lyrics and hear the song. I am pretty sure that just reading and understanding these lyrics will bring tears to your eyes. I am still wiping mine.

  3. Brilliant and touching post, Vishal. Pictures of Indian infantry regimental badges, their motto and war cry brought back flood of memories. In my 20 years' service in Armed Forces, I had the honor to be associated with some of these world famous 'Pultons'. The caption you gave to your post - 'Jo khoon Gira Parvat Par woh khoon thaa Hindustani' went straight to my heart.
Yes, soldiers also shed a tear or two sometimes. The Gypsy soldier did...
